What attributes and features might be desirable in the Mary’s Meadow
Cohousing development?
- Energy efficiency--Jim built a super insulated home in Pennsylvania before
moving to Colorado, and is committed to the idea that if you pay a little more

as long as you own your home

solar panels, for the common house might be considered
- Built Green--Colorado has a builders’ consortium which promotes the use of
environmentally sound construction
- Technologically advanced--high speed internet access and other features
which will make it possible to telecommute from the cohousing community
- Minimal environmental impact--once construction is finished, disturbed
areas will be replanted with native grasses and flowers, obviating the
necessity for lawn mowing and extensive grounds maintenance
- Xeriscaping--in this mountainous and semiarid environment, trees and
shrubs selected for sound and wind barriers will be chosen from native, low
water demand species
- Bulk purchasing of basic foods
- Common commercial quality laundry
